Raspberry Pi Android Auto dongle

Create an Android Auto dongle

Hardware required

  • SD card with minimum 16 GB (preferably 64 GB)
  • SD card slot on your computer or SD card reader for computer
  • Raspberry pi Zero 2 W
  • Case/heat sink for Raspberry pi 2 W
  • USB-A to micro USB cable
  • Windows, Mac, or Linux computer

Software required

  • GitHub-posted software
  • Rufus

Procedure

  • assemble the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with its heat sink pads, heat sink case, and component screws
  • go to https://github.com/nisargjhaveri/WirelessAndroidAutoDongle and download the software applicable to the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W
  • download rufus-4.6p.exe (for use with Windows x64)(https://rufus.ie/en/#download)
  • in Windows Explorer, select the SD card and run Rufus as administrator
  • select OK for all messages from the system
  • once the SD card completes, insert it into the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W
  • go to the car where this dongle will be used and start the car
  • plug the USB cable first into the car and then into the middle port of the Pi (not the large USB port and not the small power port on the end)
  • open the phone to be paired with Android Auto and go to Bluetooth settings
  • look for a device named AA Wireless Dongle
  • accept this device
